SONNY MOECKEL 

Born and raised on the Navajo reservation, Sonny (Jicarilla Apache, Navajo & German), at such an early age was Inspired by the artistry of his grandmother Helen Begay.  She weaved traditional yet intricately designed Navajo rugs.

Under the study of painter Larry Hoskie, he would have his first painting featured in The Heard Art Museum at the age of 13. Multi- instrumentists and song writer, Sonny studied Music at Whitworth University, before moving to Nashville, Tennessee where he worked with a wide range of artists and musicians. He has since been published in the arts with his song writing, photography, and oil paintings. 

LISA MOECKEL

On her own, Lisa has mainly focused on realism drawings, specifically portraiture. She has only expanded into oil painting in her collaborations with Sonny. She studied business management at Whitworth University where she got her degree. 

 

MOECKEL

Moeckel is the works of two artists who are married. Sonny and Lisa Moeckel currently reside in Spokane, Washington.

Working mainly with oil paints, their two different styles combine to create expressionist portrait paintings. Their works express the balance between reality and distortion to evoke human emotion and vulnerability.
