Dahteste was a Chokonen Apache woman. She was known as a warrior, messenger, and mediator. She rode and fought alongside men, including Geronimo. She later became an interpreter and peacemaker, working with U.S. authorities to negotiate for her people. She was born in 1860 and died in 1955 at the age of 95.
