Geronimo (1829–1909) was a prominent military leader and medicine man of the Bedonkohe band of the Chiricahua Apache. He is one of the most well-known Native American figures in U.S. history, renowned for his fierce resistance against Mexico and the United States as they encroached on Apache lands in the 19th century. With Geronimo’s combination of fierce fighting tactics, perceived supernatural powers, and resistance, he was one of the most feared Native American Chiefs in history.
