As an Indigenous Artist (Jicarilla Apache and Navajo), born and raised on the Navajo reservation, turquoise is important to our culture as it represents healing and protection. The green and blue hues of Turquoise and reflected in this artwork represent the sky, water, and connection to Earth. We hope to promote diversity and inclusion through our art and by our subject matter. The title “Horizon” symbolizes the concept of the cyclical nature of life and death and our connection to the Earth and the spirit realms.
We are a married artist duo who paint collaboratively on the same canvas by combining our abstract and realistic styles to create expressionist fine art paintings. We hope this piece resonates with the viewer through the painterly lines and the shattered pieces against a backdrop of bold vivid color that the portrait of the woman’s face is juxtaposed on.
