Victorio was a famous leader of the warm springs band of the Chiricahua Apacha, not Jicarilla, but often referenced in accounts of Apache warfare. Victorio was a principal war leader. He was born in the Black Range of New Mexico and become one of the fiercest leaders resisting removal to reservations.
Sonny’s Jicarilla Apache heritage is honored in the Apache Series.
