“Salish” Original Painting
Title: “Salish”
Size: 24” by 30”
Materials/Mediums: Oil on Stretched Canvas
Original signed painting by Sonny and Lisa Moeckel
This bold and vibrant painting represents the Salish people, who inhabit parts of the Northwestern US and British Columbia. The Salish are known for their cultural traditions, and artistic expression. They have a deep connection with rivers, forest, and mountains. This is portrayed by our green, blue, and purple color choices, divided by geometric lines. The colors add a calming effect to the space. As an Indigenous Artist (Jicarilla Apache and Navajo), born and raised on the Navajo reservation, human connection with nature is important to our culture.
We are a married artist duo who paint collaboratively on the same canvas by combining our abstract and realistic styles to create expressionist paintings. We hope this piece resonates with the viewer through the painterly lines and the vivid colors that the portrait of the Indigenous man’s face is immersed in. This piece comes ready to hang on stretched canvas and hangs vertically and would fit perfectly in a seating area, above a desk, in your entryway and more brighten up your space. This piece portrays the balance between nature and humanity. We allow the painterly lines, brush strokes, and strokes of palette knives to show through in our work to display our process.
Our works express the balance between reality and distortion. When looking closely you can see each individual stroke of paint working together in unison to complete the picture.
